Banbury Innovations Masonry Products division are delighted to be associated with Salford Council’s highly acclaimed Vincent Street development where factory built houses were completed on site in just one week!
The joint venture construction project was undertaken by Taylor Woodrow and innovation experts Panaloc and recently landed them the coveted Winners prize for Housing Innovation at the Quality in Construction Awards. Masonry Products were approached to supply the brick slips specified for the entire development.
The use of innovative precision offsite manufacturing techniques meant that speed did not compromise quality or flexibility in design. Factory pre-fabrication helped to overcome this potential problem. In addition, safety was improved, it being safer to install electrical and plumbing elements in a controlled factory environment and creating significantly less work to complete on site.
The £1.7M scheme at Vincent Street was designed and built around the use of a computerized system that took three years to develop. As a result the architect’s drawing could be turned into a 3D computer model correct to an accuracy of plus or minus 1mm. The openings were then made for the utility cavities, cable channels, door and window openings using a linked CNC machine. The result is a precise system that can deliver a whole house designed and built similar to flat-pack furniture. The levels of factory possible meant that the on-site build process was super-fast, with houses erected in seven days.
